A Wonderful Time on the Westside

Howell Mill Rd. and Marietta St. Were Unrecognizable Without Cars!

Last Sunday was a sight to see. Close to 134,000 of you joined us in reclaiming Marietta Street and Howell Mill Road as public space!

This vital north-south corridor was buzzing with activity and filled with people of all ages! We saw people dancing, singing, mini-golfing, climbing, walking, lounging and laughing while exploring the businesses along the 3.6 miles of open streets.

From the opening program and kickoff parade to the winding down of the activity-filled day, City officials, neighborhood and community leaders, our sponsors, volunteers, Activity and Placemaking Partners and Route Hosts, and -- most of all -- you made the streets come to life. Thank you for, once again, demonstrating what our city streets can be!

Tell the City to #Budget4Bikes

You may have seen people wearing these bright green #Budget4Bikes stickers on the route last Sunday. They're supporting $2.5 million in funding for bike infrastructure and maintenance in the City’s FY2019 Budget. The funding will help the City set realistic goals for a bike network expansion that can be delivered in a single political term. At approximately $100,000 per mile, the City could build 20 miles of bike lanes annually. Along with projects funded by other sources, this would help meet our goal of 200 miles of bikeways by 2021 -- while also setting aside $500,000 annually for maintenance.

Support #Budget4Bikes: Email your council member before tomorrow's council meeting to let them know that funding bike infrastructure is critical to Atlanta's bike-friendly future!
