A shared street reclaims the street as a civic space where people, places, and ideas converge to make history -- or to simply enjoy a pleasant afternoon on Atlanta’s most iconic street.
It's okay if you don't quite understand how a shared street works because you'll have a chance to experience it! Learn more as the Atlanta City Studio brings this bold idea to tomorrow's Atlanta Streets Alive - Central, between John Portman Boulevard and Andrew Young International Boulevard in our Peachtree Center Activity Hub.
While there, look for our Atlanta Bicycle Coalition tent to participate in our Living Infographic by sharing how you currently interact with Peachtree Street and your thoughts on what would make that experience better.
Tomorrow's fun kicks off in South Downtown, at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Mitchell Street where we'll hear brief remarks about the shared street proposal for Downtown from City of Atlanta planning commissioner Tim Keane, followed by Janide Sidifall, director of the City's Office of Mobility who will be concluding the program by introducing the City's new Chief Bicycle Officer Cary Bearn to lead the kickoff parade.
The parade lineup and opening program are at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm parade launch.FREE bike decorations will be available while supplies last. Gather your friends and family, and join in the excitement!

After rolling with the Chief Bicycle Officer in the kickoff parade, Atlanta Bicycle Coalition members can head to the MidiCi patio in our Midtown (10th St) Activity Hub to mix and mingle over complimentary pizza and $3 Peronis in our Member Lounge. They'll also have the unique opportunity to chat with the Office of Mobility's Chris McIntosh, co-author of the City's first annual bike report, as well as Barrington Brown, the Capital Works program manager in the City's Department of Public Works who is overseeing quick implementation bicycle projects, and Byron Rushing, the Atlanta Regional Commission's Bicycle & Pedestrian Program Manager, will be there to talk about ARC's Walk. Atlanta Streets Alive is a family-friendly, community-oriented experience for people of all ages to have an opportunity to share the street as public space. Expect areas of congestion in and around Acitivity Hubs and watch out for slow and stopped participants, including children. In general, please move at safe speeds and with care and respect. A safe street is one we can all enjoy!
