Join Us in the Street Tomorrow!

By this time tomorrow, we will be activating 8.8 miles of open street. If you want Atlanta streets to be alive every day, you can't let a little rain get in your way! There's some rain in the forecast, but we'll still be opening streets for people. By showing up, you'll showcase just how much we need safe streets for all.

LET'S CELEBRATE 8.8 MILES OF OPEN STREET

Connecting 21 Neighborhoods Across the City

Atlanta Streets Alive is more than a day of fun in the streets. Through this advocacy initiative we, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, hope to create an environment that will evolve into tangible, communal changes -- including changes in infrastructure. We believe all streets in Atlanta should be safe for everyone to use. Be sure to stop by one of our Atlanta Bicycle Coalition tents to learn about our Safe Streets for All advocacy. Tomorrow, you can find us at the 8th Street Hub on Howell Mill Road in Home Park, the Five Points Hub on Decatur Street in Downtown, and the Inman Park-Reynoldstown Hub at Hurt Street on DeKalb Avenue.

This route will be our longest program to date -- stretching across the city and connecting 21 neighborhoods from Howell Mill Road to DeKalb Avenue. This Atlanta Streets Alive: Cross-City program will open 8.8 miles of streets to people on foot, bicycle, or other human-powered wheels by creating a car-free zone for the community to play, exercise, and socialize. There will be six hours (instead of the typical four hours) of open streets, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, to allow more time for participants to experience the route.

If that isn’t exciting enough, the City of Decatur is joining in on the action with Decatur Streets Alive by adding West Howard Avenue -- bringing tomorrow's route to almost 10 miles of open streets.

THE FUN STARTS AT WEST MARIETTA STREET & HOWELL MILL ROAD

The official opening of the street and lineup for the kickoff parade will take place at the 8th Street Hub at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm parade launch. City of Atlanta officials and community leaders will remark on the status of the two Complete Street projects along this route and rally participants in support of safe streets. FREE bike decorations will be available while supplies last. Gather your friends and family, and join in the excitement!

SLOW & SAFE

Atlanta Streets Alive is a family-friendly, community-oriented experience for people of all ages to have an opportunity to share the street as public space. Expect areas of congestion in and around activity hubs and watch out for slow and stopped participants, including children. In general, please move at safe speeds and with care and respect. A safe street is one we can all enjoy!

This is the first route with a speed limit! Motorized and human-powered modes of transportation must remain under 10 miles per hour.
